MOUNTAINS OF GOOSE
RENEWAL OF PERCEPTION
BIOGRAPHY
Laura Montes de Oca is a Mexican textile artist whose practice is based on manual work with thread and knots. Her work transforms weaving into an intimate and spatial experience, where time, body, and memory intertwine in a living structure.
As a mother and creator, her work stems from a deep relationship with family; the knots represent spiritual connections where each thread is a shared experience.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
""The work is not meant to be consumed visually; it demands presence, time, and sustained attention.""
PERCEPTUAL RENEWAL
The work shifts the viewer's perspective toward a bodily experience. It does not seek immediate visual impact, but rather a durational perception where time is the essential component.
THE STRUCTURAL NODE
The knot is the smallest unit of meaning. It is not an ornament, but the material representation of the bond. The work is held together by distributed tensions.
SPACE AS EXPERIENCE
The pieces modulate the environment by acting as soft thresholds that transform the place into a sensitive field.
