VISUAL ARTIST
NICOLÁS GUZMÁN
PROGRESSIVE PAINTING
BIOGRAPHY
Nicolás Guzmán (Xalapa, Veracruz) is a visual artist whose practice approaches painting as a perceptual experience and a field of material research. Guzmán conceives of painting as a "living organism," an open-ended visual body that evolves over time.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
""Painting is not the representation of an object, but the establishment of a system of forces.""
ACTIVE SILENCE
Silence is not emptiness, but an aesthetic condition that suspends the closure of meaning. It organizes visual complexity, preventing it from becoming noise.
PROGRESSIVE PAINTING
A compositional hypothesis where visual motifs are continually repeated, distorted, and reconfigured. Like progressive music, the work eschews a definitive form.
OPEN SYSTEM
Unstable architecture that is not inhabited, but rather traversed. Each work is configured as a topology of impermanence, a living apparatus that organizes energy.
